Syrian Family Support Project

When the Syrian Refugee Crisis captured the world's attention, a group of people who call West Springs Church home decided to get personally involved. Some from outside the church who shared the concern also joined the group, including two Syrian newcomers to Canada. A relationship was established with Calgary Catholic Immigration Society, an agency with years of experience in this kind of work. Since the, the group has successfully raised the required $10,000 to sponsor a university student couple from Damascus. The couple is currently in Lebanon waiting asylum processing. It is hoped they will arrive in Calgary within the next few months. In August 2017, the group committed to assist in sponsoring six members of a Syrian family seeking reunification with four family members already resettled in Calgary. The process moves slowly, generally taking 2-3 years.

What Can i do to help this family?

Pray - For peace. For those who have been forced to flee their homes. For refugee aid workers. For governments and agencies processing applications for asylum. For this specific Syrian family. For the funding needed. For the Project Team.

Give - Nothing can be done to help without financial resources. Like all private sponsors, the group has committed to help support these newcomers for one year, providing them a firm foundation for future success. A minimum financial goal of $36,000 is needed to sponsor a family. Cash and cheques may be given through West Springs church, directed to "Syrian Family Project". 100% of donations given in this way go to the project. All gifts given will receive charitable donation tax receipts.
